They spread to different parts of the body and grow in specific ways that are unique for that type of cancer. There are specific methods for diagnosing, staging and treating each different kind of cancer. The principles that guide diagnosis and treatment of breast cancer are different than those that guide lung or colon cancers.

 
For many types of cancers no definite causes are known. There is no single cause for the hundreds of different types of cancers. In many ways, cancer remains something of a mystery, but continuing research is greatly increasing our understanding of this condition.
