At Little Company of Mary we take both an aggressive and compassionate approach to the fight against cancer. In radiation therapy high energy rays are used to damage cancer cells and stop them from growing and dividing. Radiation therapy is a local treatment and is designed to affect cancer cells in the treated area. The treatment may be external and come from a machine or it may be in the form of an implant, a small container of radioactive material placed directly in or near a tumor. Some patients get both kinds of radiation therapy.
