The Best of Both Worlds
Women and Children Benefit by Unique Access to Care

It seems impossible for any news-savvy Angeleno to have escaped the media reminders
this past year of the difficulties surrounding low-income families and their access
to quality health care in Los Angeles County. The possibility of a shortfall in funding
for facilities and personnel was announced, debated, voted on and continues to plague
Los Angeles. Fortunately, there is some good news for childrens health care in
the Harbor area communities. Thanks to more than $800,000 in grants from the Unihealth
Foundation, the Wallis Foundation, Providence Health System and other friends, more
women and children will receive high quality health care. Best of all, they can do it
together in a unique one-stop clinic created by LCM.

care to its existing perinatal services, creating the newly opened Women and
Childrens Clinic of Little Company of Mary in Harbor City. Mary Odell,
Unihealth Foundation President, commented, the Boards focus is on
community health, and the strength of this program is that both women and children
can receive care in one location, when normally access to quality health care is so
limited in neighborhoods such as this.

clinic, commented Wagoner.
