WELCOME TO THE INAUGURAL ISSUE of Connections, the newsletter of LCMCHF! This
new publication will serve as a vehicle for communication to foundation board
members, friends and donors. In this, my first year as chairman, I commend you
all for your stewardship and generosity of time, talents and
gifts.
I have long held a soft spot in my heart for Little Company of Mary. My wife,
Vivian, and I have both experienced the caring service, spiritual support and
excellent facilities. Just prior to my initial recruitment to the Board in 1999,
Vivian and I had a conversation about the extent of my community involvement. She
believed that I was over-committed, stressed and far-too-often absent
from home.

|
After acknowledging the accuracy of her assessment, I resolved to say no
to any future commitments. So, even though flattered by the invitation to join the
esteemed group of board volunteers, I concluded that I should turn down the offer.
Much to my surprise when relaying my decision to Vivian, she responded, You
have to help the hospital. Find something else to give up, but you have to help
the hospital! That was the start of my embracing the mission of Little
Company of Mary.

My inspiration comes from the good that others have done. We are in the second year
as the combined Little Company of Mary Community Health Foundation. Following a very
successful year under the leadership of Joanne Hunter, we are taking on new challenges
and even higher goals. I have every confidence that our team of devoted trustees,
community friends and philanthropic partners is up to the task ahead. The superb
foundation staff, directed by Joe Zanetta, exemplifies talent, commitment and
intelligence and provides our support. With Blair Contratto at the helm, Nancy Carlson
and Mark Costa directing operations, and the Sisters of Little Company of Mary adding
their vision, we will continue to make visible a healing presence in our
community.
