LCMH Auxiliary Leadership Approves Historic Gift

 
FOR A PERSON WHO “never carries more than a $20 bill in her wallet,“ Audrey Rempert, President of the Little Company of Mary Hospital Auxiliary for 2002, had a big announcement to make on behalf of the Auxiliary Board of Directors — the commitment of a $750,000 pledge payable over five years. Inspired by Audrey’s leadership, the board decided to make the largest gift in its history. “When I think about the people who will benefit from the growing funds we provide, that is where the excitement is for me,” commented Audrey.

 
Audrey’s volunteer spirit was prompted by her gratitude for the high quality health care her family has received at LCMH, starting with the birth of her three grandsons and followed by her husband’s emergency room visit. “One day as I was driving by the hospital, I decided to park and visit the volunteer office. Despite the fact that I didn’t like to be around sick people, nor did I want to wear the ‘blue jacket’, here I am loving every minute for over six years!”

The roots of the Auxiliary stem from the 1950’s, beginning as part of the fundraising effort to purchase the original piece of land for the hospital. The group’s gifts of time, talent and treasure have continued to this day for its current 325 members. During the past three decades the auxiliary has contributed nearly $3 million through sales at the gift shop and thrift store. With their contributions of service far beyond just the financial realm, the volunteers are instrumental in demonstrating the mission of Little Company of Mary by truly “making visible the healing presence” in all they do.
