Like a CT scan, an MRI can produce detailed images of soft tissue structures
inside the body. These images are produced using a magnetic field and pulses
of radio wave energy. The MRI slices through the body layer by layer and takes
pictures of each slice. Nerves and discs are shown in great detail, and the MRI
is more sensitive to assessing nerve roots than a CT scan.

Our outpatient imaging center is fully equipped with the GE Advantage MRI
scanner, the Echospeed Plus 1.5, that combines technical quality with the comfort
of not being confined inside a scanner. The short bore design allows
the patient to have most of their body outside the MRI without enclosing the
patient within the small parameter of older MRI scanners. In addition, a two-way
intercom system and hand-held call button gives the patient a sense of control.
The scanner features a fiber track lighting and ventilation system, look out
head coil mirror and a music system. And, the actual time for a spine scan is
now less than 30 minutes. Another advantage in most cases, the patient can have
a family member in the scanner room with them no more feelings
of isolation.
The Pictorial Archival Communication Technology is a digital reporting system that
allows your MRI (or any other radiologic procedures) to be transmitted to the
neuroradiologist and your private physician within minutes. By the time you are
dressed and ready to go, doctors can be reviewing your MRI and making healthcare
decisions. No more carrying films from doctor to doctor.
