Press Ganey Associates Names Providence Little Company of Mary Medical Center San Pedro a 2009 “Best Place to Practice Award” Winner

Providence Little Company of Mary Medical Center San Pedro recently announced that Press Ganey Associates has named it a 2009 Best Place to Practice Award winner. Press Ganey works with hospitals to allow them to measure and improve the quality of their care by surveying patients and physicians each year. The company’s databases are the largest in the industry, and allow facilities nationwide to benchmark their results against peer organizations.

The Best Place to Practice Award is reserved for hospitals that have reached and sustained the 95th percentile on their physician surveys. Providence Little Company of Mary Medical Center San Pedro is one of only six hospitals in the United States (and the only hospital in the South Bay) to receive this prestigious honor in 2009.

“We are honored to be one of only six hospitals in the entire country to receive such high ratings from physicians. The fact that our hospital consistently sets and achieves high standards for patient care (resulting, for example, in our recently being designated as the South Bay’s first Advanced Primary Stroke Center) makes it the kind of place where high-quality physicians want to practice medicine,” said Chief Executive Nancy Carlson.

“When physicians were surveyed by Press Ganey Associates about the quality of patient care at Providence Little Company of Mary Medical Center San Pedro, 118 of them graded it in the top 1% of the nation,” explained Chief of Medical Staff Miles Shaw, MD.

“Physicians have an inside view so their opinion is important. In fact, on the same survey the physicians also said they would recommend our hospital for the care for their own family and friends. We’re very proud of that. This validates the high caliber of care and compassion provided at Providence Little Company of Mary Medical Center San Pedro that our community receives day in and day out. It’s simply an outstanding community hospital.”

Providence Little Company of Mary Medical Center San Pedro is a 356-bed acute care facility. As a regional referral center, the hospital offers a broad array of inpatient and outpatient care for the South Bay communities.
